MOBIO committees give industry professionals the opportunity
to network as well as to actively shape the future of
MOBIO. The following committees are active, but staff
will support membership subsets as they organize for
specific purposes.
Public Policy Committee
This committee provides leadership and oversees the
policy directives of the Missouri Biotechnology Association
in the area of governmental and regulatory affairs. The
committee proactively meets with the membership, seeks
the broadest input possible across the membership,
and then focuses the priorities of the association.
The committee seeks to inform and educate elected officials
at the federal, state and local government levels.
The committee seeks to actively promote legislation
or policies that will be favorable to the overall life
sciences community, including existing and This committee
is co-chaired by Donn
Rubin of the Coalition for Plant and Life Sciences
and Jewel Scott of the Civic Council
of Greater Kansas City.
Capital Formation
This committee seeks to meaningfully participate in the
growth of investment capital in Missouri. This committee
is best positioned to speak with authority on the special
start-up and pre-seed financial needs and challenges
of emerging life sciences employers. This committee
is chaired by Scott
Zajac of Advantage Capital Partners.
Membership and Benefits
Co-Chaired by Patrick Woolley of the Polsinelli, Shalton,
Welte & Suelthaus firm and Joe Bannister of Clayco, this committee
directs all activities having to do with membership promotion.
Additionally, this committee ensures that MOBIO members
receive optimal value from their membership. The
committee works to enhance all aspects of membership
including benefits, services and member programs. This
committee has oversight and makes recommendations for
sponsorship opportunities and setting membership dues
levels. The executive director works with the membership
committee to expand its scope to include those duties
typically assigned to a development committee, seeking
leadership support in identifying, qualifying and jointly
soliciting funds from top life sciences prospects and
other external sources of support..
Program Committee
This committee is responsible for developing meaningful,
topical agendas for regular membership meetings and
larger special conferences.communications. This committee
is chaired by Joe Blechl of Centocor Biologics and Mary Woodward of Tripos.
Workforce Development Committee
Chaired by Frank Stokes of the Missouri Technology
Corporation, this committee focuses on short-term to
mid-term workforce needs facing the industry in the next
decade and endeavors to increase collaboration and coordination
of efforts among industry, academia and governmental
bodies.
Community and Outreach Committee
Chaired by Harley Blosser of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal,
this committee seeks out and assists in organizing volunteer
community activities that members or their associates
may be interested in participating. In giving back
to the greater community, MOBIO may be able to develop
and strengthen relationships with other organizations
who could benefit from biotechnology.
Finance Committee
The finance committee is a subcommittee of the
board of directors charged with overseeing development
of the budget; ensuring processes are in place for accurate
tracking/monitoring/accountability for funds; ensuring
processes are in place for adequate financial controls;
and reviewing major grants and grant obligations.
Nominating Committee
The nominating committee is a subcommittee of
the board of directors charged with soliciting and reviewing
potential leadership candidates for the board of directors.
The subcommittee seeks the appropriate balance to have
the entire board make-up reflective of the membership
as a whole, including geographic diversity as well as
biotech market focus.
Life Sciences Speakers Bureau
In our efforts to build grassroots activities in support
of the life sciences, we are seeking experienced biologists
and others from our companies and universities to introduce
biotechnology to the attendees at town hall meetings
and other public forums.
Website
MOBIO members develop web site content in conjunction
with the editorial committee. The MOBIO website server
is hosted by the National Biodiesel Board.
