Thomas Patton

A native of Western Pennsylvania, Tom attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a B.S. in Pharmacy, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics in 1971, 1973 and 1975 respectively. After completion of the doctorate, he joined the faculty of the University of Kansas rising from Assistant Professor to full professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacy Practice in 1984. For 3 ½ years he also served the University of Kansas as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Graduate Studies and Public Service. He left the University of Kansas in 1986 to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Patton held increasingly responsible positions at The Upjohn Company, Oread Laboratories, Merck and Co., and The DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company, where in his last position he was Vice President of Pharmaceutical R&D. In 1994, he returned to academia as President of St. Louis College of Pharmacy. 

After serving St. Louis College of Pharmacy as President for sixteen years, in 2010 Dr. Patton assumed the role of President Emeritus. In addition to his responsibilities at the College, Dr. Patton is a scientific consultant to the pharmaceutical industry and a member of the United States Pharmacopeal Convention. He also serves as Chairman of the Higher Education Consortium of St. Louis and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Barnes Jewish College of Nursing.
