Missouri Biotechnology Association Board of Directors - 2011

Jim Baker

Dr. Jim Baker is Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Missouri State University and Director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Programs.  In addition, he is the Director of China Operations for the Missouri State University System and advises the President on all matters pertaining to Missouri State University programs and activities in China. Other units reporting to Dr. Baker include Broadcast Services (Ozarks Public Television and KSMU Radio), the Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center (which includes the Center for Applied Science and Engineering, the Center for Biomedical and Life Sciences, and Springfield Innovation, Inc. ), and the Community and Social Issues Institute (CSII).  Dr. Baker is also responsible for the ongoing development of the University’s urban research park, IDEA Commons in Springfield’s city center area.

In addition to his university duties, Dr. Baker was appointed to the Missouri Technology Corporation by Governor Jay Nixon, and is the Director of the Springfield Center for Excellence in Life Sciences.  He is currently a member of the boards the Missouri Biotechnology Association, the Springfield Business and Development Corporation, Springfield Innovation, Inc.  and the St. John’s Medical Research Institute, Inc. 

Past service includes being a member of the Jordan Valley Park Advisory Committee, member of the Ozarks Technical Community College Regional Technical Education Council, member of the Idaho Humanities Council, member of the Missouri Learner’s Network Planning and Development Group, board member with the Springfield Discovery Center, the Safety Council of the Ozarks, and board member and past president of the Urban Districts Alliance and the Springfield Regional Arts Council. 

Dr. Baker received his B.A. in Sociology and his Masters in Public Administration degrees from Boise State University, Idaho.  He received his Ph.D. in Education from the University of Idaho.
