The Missouri Pavilion in San Diego was the Hub of Activity and Home Base For More Than 200 Missouri Attendees

Thank you: Senator Tom Dempsey, Senator Tim Green, Senator Frank Barnitz, Rep Allen Icet, Rep Martin Rucker, Rep Rick Stream, Rep Sam Komo, Rep Shane Schoeller, Rep Tim Flook, Rep Kenny Jones, Rep Mike Parson, Rep Mike Talboy, Rep Ryan Silvey and Jeff Brooks with Rep Ron Richard for joining MOBIO and our state's life sciences leaders in San Diego, June 16-20th, 2008.

BIO 2008 San Diego - Missouri: Built for Biotechnology!

  • This June, Missouri's life sciences leaders went toe-to-toe with other leaders throughout the biotechnology industry while conducting business in the midst of 21,000 attendees, 2,200 exhibitors, and more than 12,000 business to business interactions at the annual conference known as "The Olympics of Biotechnology". More than two hundred members of the Missouri Biotechnology Association journeyed as a delegation to the San Diego Convention and Exhibition Center. Missouri stakeholders included representatives from biotechnology companies, research institutions, the biotech support services industry, economic developers and members of higher education and innovation centers.
  • The Missouri Pavilion was front and center in the San Diego Convention Center Exhibition Hall at BIO 2008 in June, 2008. Missouri's pavilion served as the gathering place and "home base" for our attendees and interested partners. There were multiple opportunities to showcase your company to the more that 21,000 international attendees, and our presence provided an impressive display of the biotech strengths of the Midwest.

  • Committed State Leaders: Missouri's life sciences delegation included Director Greg Steinhoff of the Missouri Department of Economic Development and Director Katie Smith of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Below, Steinhoff visits with Sen. Tim Green and Sen. Frank Barnitz.

  • The state's leaders in life sciences are stepping up and collaborating on the the BIO 2008 initiative to make sure our on-site activities stand out in this highly competitive international marketplace.  Many leaders have worked diligently to ensure a success for this effort, with a Return on Investment emphasis on events and efforts that deepen relationships and those that can facilitate future deals and collaborations. The united effort and investment to strengthen Missouri’s presence at BIO 2008 advances our statewide economic development objectives.
  • MOBIO organized an effort that attracted corporate scholarship support to host 14 state legislators at this year's BIO conference. Our motivation behind this endeavor was that state leaders should be fully aware of this highly competitive gathering, and Missouri's strong posture from which it will further grow. This year, BIO’s June dates afforded even greater opportunities as we shined a spotlight on Missouri’s role in the international biotechnology landscape for our Missouri legislators. In short, MOBIO expanded our goals to effectively marry MOBIO’s core advocacy and public policy offerings with our statewide and international BIO marketing efforts. Below, Rep. Allen Icet and Rep. Mike Parson engage in conversation with Johnson & Johnson executive Susan Zalenski.

  • BIO President Jim Greenwood, before the nation's most prominent biotechnology executives, recognized and gave kudos to the 15 Missouri representatives and senators as having earned the distinction of being the largest public officials delegation in the nation attending the BIO Conference in San Diego.

  • More than 600 conference members attended The Second Annual Midwest Jazz and Blues Reception which was held in the Park directly across the street from the San Diego Convention Center on Wednesday, June 18. This reception was open to all conference attendees and was brought to you through a partnership of Missouri (MOBIO)and Illinois biotech (iBio)stakeholders.

  • The Third Annual Missouri Breakfast at BIO was held on Wednesday morning, June 18th, at the University Club atop Symphony Towers. Once again, this venue allowed us a fabulous vista of the San Diego Bay and downtown. Dr. Jerry Caulder was our special 2008 keynote, and was introduced by Chairman Dale Ludwig. The law firm of Polsinelli Shalton Flanigan Suelthaus and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center were the presenting sponsors of the Missouri Breakfast.
